Our Methodology

How Heirloom Path works

Every service at Heirloom Path begins from the same premise: the family already holds the material; our role is to provide a setting, a structure, and a skilled facilitator who helps bring it forward without pressure or hurry. Nothing is manufactured or invented. Stories are recorded in the participant's words. Objects are described by the people who own and remember them. Volumes are assembled from contributions the family chooses to include.

The three services address three different registers of family history work — the intellectual and scholarly (reading group), the sensory and object-based (home visit), and the annual and documentary (printed volume). They can be taken as standalone projects or in sequence, and there is no prescribed order. Many families begin with a reading group to understand the landscape before commissioning a home visit or annual volume.

Family Heritage Reading Group

A six-session reading group focused on books and articles about family history, genealogy, and personal archives. The group meets fortnightly at the compendium room. The host is a librarian-trained facilitator who introduces each reading and supports the discussion. The group is purely informational and reflective; it does not address legal, tax, or financial matters.

What this session includes

  • Six fortnightly 2-hour sessions in the Thong Lor compendium room
  • Curated reading packs delivered before each session
  • Written session summaries for every gathering
  • Reflective prompts to take home between sessions
  • Small group (maximum 8 participants per cohort)

How it unfolds

  1. 1Registration and pre-reading dispatch — you receive the first reading pack 10 days before the opening session.
  2. 2Six fortnightly sessions over twelve weeks, each opening with a facilitator introduction followed by open discussion.
  3. 3Closing session with a personal reflection exercise, leaving each participant with a starting framework for their own family archive project.

Object Stories Visit

A half-day home visit during which an interviewer and a participant walk through the home, choosing meaningful objects together and recording short stories about each. Recordings are produced as audio files; a small printed catalogue describes each object with the participant's words. The visit is a storytelling exercise; no appraisal or interpretive value is implied.

What this visit includes

  • Half-day in-home session (typically 3–4 hours)
  • Audio recordings of each object story (48 kHz WAV, MP3 delivery)
  • Printed A5 catalogue with object descriptions and optional photographs
  • Delivery of all materials within two weeks of the visit
  • Home visits available across Bangkok metropolitan area

How it unfolds

  1. 1Introductory call to discuss the visit, set expectations, and confirm date and address.
  2. 2Half-day home visit — walk through the home at your pace, selecting objects and recording stories as they arise.
  3. 3Audio editing and catalogue layout by the studio, followed by delivery of the finished print and audio files within two weeks.

Chapter III · ฿14,600

Family Year Annual Volume

An annual production project in which a family captures the year as a softcover printed volume — short essays, family photos, important everyday moments, recipes, and notes from each family member. The studio handles design, layout, and printing of three bound copies. The volume is a creative artefact and does not include legal, tax, or financial content.

What this volume includes

  • Full design, layout, and print coordination by the studio
  • Three acid-free softcover bound copies
  • Family review and approval stage before print
  • Support for handwritten contributions (scanned and integrated)
  • English and Thai language materials accepted

How it unfolds

  1. 1Kick-off conversation to agree scope, structure, and contribution process with the family.
  2. 2Contribution gathering — each family member submits essays, notes, photos, or handwritten materials over 3–4 weeks.
  3. 3Studio design and draft layout, followed by a family review round and final approval before printing.
  4. 4Printing and delivery of three bound copies within the agreed timeline (typically six to eight weeks from first submission).
